Have you always wanted to reach your recommended daily water intake, but you have no idea how to make it happen in the midst of your busy life?
Maybe you have kids who would gladly drink all the juice or milk they can get their hands on, but it feels like pulling teeth to get nearly enough water into their busy little bodies 😉
Are you feeling the “wow” factor, but just not feeling the “how” factor? Me too – up until just recently when I finally found my secret to drinking enough water and helping my family do the same!
People need ph balance for good health, just like plants do! I love my lemon oil for this – so much quicker & easier than squeezing a lemon for lemon water multiple times every day. Not to mention less guilt inducing since I tend to buy a bag of lemons and let them languish till they need to be tossed 😉
Since learning the value of essential oils in balancing ph and metabolism, I knew I couldn’t afford not to go ahead and use the oils I already know and love to flavor my water too. Now I’m drinking 3 or 4 times more water each day than I was before, just because my water is tastier and more fun to drink! Happy to say I’m also beginning to see benefits like these already:
- Grapefruit oil boosts metabolism
- Lemon oil detoxes cells of fat and balances internal ph
- Peppermint oil curbs appetite and sugar cravings
- Lime oil supports healthy skin and weight management
If you struggle at all with fluid retention, sluggish bowels, anxiety, sluggish lymph system, drinking citrus oils in water may really help. Five more great reasons to add therapeutic grade essential oils to your water include:
- Citrus oils from Young Living are cold pressed from the rinds so they are not acidic and you don’t have to worry about hurting the enamel on your teeth from drinking citrus water.
- Citrus oils digest petro-chemicals, which we all have in our bodies and the citrus oils help the body detox/flush the chemicals.
- Citrus oils add amazing flavor to water and are detoxing, fat-dissolving, immune-boosting.
- Citrus oils are packed with cancer fighting d-limonene
- 1-2 drops per 8 ounce glass of water goes a long way and all of Young Living’s citrus oils are less than 0.06 per drop! I love that they are so affordable and cost effective!
A good rule of thumb is to add 2-4 drops of your chosen oil to your 8 ounce glass of water. You’ll want to drink your essential oil water in a glass cup or bottle because if your ‘oily water’ sits awhile it would start eating through plastic if it was in a plastic cup or container. I like this line of glass water bottles or a glass mason jar with a fun straw for mine!
First timers tip: If the idea of adding essential oils to your water weirds you out even for a moment, just remember this: the oil actually comes from the fruit itself in the first place, so it really is no different than squeezing the fruit by hand. It’s just much quicker and more convenient is all! My favorites are lemon and lime oils together or grapefruit oil by itself in my water.
It’s recommended for adults to drink 8 glasses of water per day but if you find yourself currently drinking well below that amount, you can always take a stair-step approach to gradually increase your water intake by an extra cup a day over the course of a week or so. There are even great apps out there to help you track your daily water intake by logging your glasses as you go!
We all have our little splurges and mine is bubbly water. To me, it’s like Sprite but without all the sugar and chemicals. So those times after dinner that you may have otherwise reached for something sweet – it helps to have LaCroix or even San Pellegrino on hand for a healthier palate cleanser. You can even add a few drops of your essential oil to those! I buy our LaCroix in bulk at Costco and I’ll grab the San Pellegrino when they have it marked down there too.
If you decide to try adding essential oils to your water, I’d love to hear how it goes for you and your family. Just click over here to grab your own essential oils and get ready to take your water consumption to the next level!
Always be sure to read labels on the bottles of your essential oils – some oils are approved for internal consumption and some oils are not.
