My husband and I were recently blessed to spend a weekend at a Family Life Weekend to Remember Getaway being encouraged in God’s plan for marriage. I’ve listened to Family Life Today podcasts for years but never attended one of their events, so I was very excited for this opportunity!
Our weekend began with meeting in Cincinnati for registration and an opening session Friday night. We loved how Family Life thought of every detail in making every aspect so welcoming! Our hosts wanted to pour into their guests so much, they even took the time to know us a little better by asking about who had been married the longest and the shortest. After determining which couples those were, they were affirmed by all with applause and words of encouragement. I thought it was very sweet how they later did the same for all the expecting mothers in attendance 🙂
We were in a large ballroom of a beautiful Hilton in downtown Cincinnati. This was adjacent to a foyer area set up for any purchases people might like to make of a wide variety of marriage resources to extend the teaching well past the weekend.
We were given workbooks filled with helpful thinking points, guided instruction, and exercises to connect with our spouses over. Only now do I realize, we just happened to have the book open to the raciest topic of the whole weekend when we shot this photo – HA! Hilariously utter coincidence 😉
Speakers will change depending on availability and geographic location of any given Weekend to Remember event. Ours happened to be a riot! Even more importantly, they had rich words of wisdom and much appreciated transparency in their storytelling, woven in throughout our time over the weekend. We also found alot of value in the short video clips that were sometimes shown between speakers.
The date night time that was pre-planned into the weekend for everyone was a thoughtful touch! We spent ours having the best pizza I ever tasted at Mellow Mushroom 🙂 Have you ever been to one? This was my first time and I adored the fun, eclectic atmosphere too!
Overall, we both felt our Weekend to Remember experience was time very well spent investing into our marriage! It is so easy for us all to experience a slow and subtle shift of intentional time connecting with our spouse falling by the wayside if we don’t proactively guard against it. Planning your own weekend getaway in your area is one way I would highly recommend to set aside time to focus on just you and your spouse. Especially if you run around the city finding adventure like we did at the start of date night 😉 Here’s us taking in the view from the top of the tallest building in the city!
Thanks so much to Family Life for providing our conference registration to facilitate this review!
