Our Journey with Essential Oils

+1
Share

Hey friends!  Alot of you have started asking about details on Young Living, since you saw me start sharing a little here and there about our recent experiences with them.  Within the first week, I was hooked and in the months since, I am more and more convinced that these oils are a part of God’s creation and gift to us in healing our bodies. I really believe that God gave us all we need to live a healthy life on this planet 🙂

So I wanted to tell you all about the oils and just why exactly we’ve been so excited to include them in our daily lives – Here is what we love about our Young Living essential oils.

2 why we use essential oils in our home SB

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are volatile liquids and aromatic compounds that are distilled or pressed from plants. Like the blood in our bodies, the essential oil of a plant is used to seal the cut, protect the wound, provide nutrients and oxygen for cell regeneration and guard against harmful microorganisms.

The oils:

• Are immune enhancing
• Support the body’s natural defenses
• Support the immune, circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, nervous, and other body systems.
• Aid in maintaining normal cellular regeneration
• Are mood elevating
• Are antiseptic (topical use only)
• Are high in antioxidants
• Are aromatic
• Are oxygenating
• Boost stamina and energy
• Help you relax
• Help manage stress and frustration
• Help reduce the appearance of aging
• Improve mental clarity
• Promote overall health, vitality, and longevity
• Support normal cellular function
• Help with focus and concentration
• Encourage proper nasal function
• Support the lungs and sinuses

The story of our family's essential oils journey. How we embrace wellness with Young Living Essential Oils + details on this month's special promotion!

For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in all things related to health and wellness. Especially when I really take the time to think about all the ways that plants can provide for our needs! That’s why I’ve been interested in essential oils for a long time now too.  I just hadn’t really invested in the best way to bring as many of the oils as possible for the best price into our home until I saw a Young Living promotion for a starter kit, and then I jumped at the chance to do so!

But it was more than just the amazing sale – we love that Young Living is a full disclosure company! We can visit their farms, participate in the harvesting, visit the distilleries, and even visit the labs where the oils are tested.  Nothing is hidden and nothing goes through an outside “oil broker.”  No one else provides the Seed To Seal guarantee that Young Living does!

I also just plain love how much we can do with our essential oils – you can see all the projects and uses we’ve found for our oils right here and you can read more about why we chose Young Living right here 🙂

How to Use Essential Oils

There are 3 main ways to use essential oils – aromatically, topically, or internally.

1. Aromatic – this means to inhale the oils.
  • Rub 1-2 drops of essential oil between your palms and inhale
  • Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot water. Cover your head and bowl with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly. Many people find this very useful for congestion and migraines.
  • Use your favorite essential oils in a diffuser – ours is nearly constantly going!
2. Topical – this means to apply the oils directly to the skin
  • Place 1-2 drops of essential oil directly  on the desired area and massage in. Repeat as needed. Always follow the labels’ dilution instructions.
  • NOTE: Essential oils are very potent and may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs apply any pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute.
3. Internal – this means to ingest the oils.
  • Place several drops of oil into a gelatin capsule and swallow with water
  • Add 1-2 drops of essential oil to a glass of water, NingXia Red, juice, yogurt
  • Add 1-2 drops of oil {to taste} to meals when cooking
  • NOTE: Always consult individual product labels for usage directions. Young Living essential oils are guaranteed for purity and potency, and all oils that can be ingested are clearly labeled as supplements and are certified GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) by the FDA. Each oil has specifications and safety info printed right on the label.

Carrier Oils and Dilution

  • You will want to dilute certain oils, which are called “hot” oils, because they can irritate the skin. Oils like Cinnamon, Peppermint, and Oregano are examples of hot oils. Essential oils are very powerful and potent so a little bit goes a long way
  •  A carrier oil is any fatty vegetable based oil such as olive, coconut, grapeseed avocado, sweet almond, jojoba
  • Another reason you would dilute your oils is to allow them to cover a larger surface area. Keep in mind that you almost always want to dilute oils with children, usually more so than you would on yourself
    • Infants: 1-3 drops of essential oil to 1 Tablespoon of carrier oil
    • Children 1-5 years old: 1-3 drops of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil

Why Young Living?

First and foremost – quality. For more than 20 years, Young Living has set the standard for determining essential oil purity and potency. At the heart of their quality promise is Seed to Seal, Young Living’s unique process that focuses on five requirements for producing pure essential oils.
Also the support and education that is continually given every step of the way through community groups, classes offered online, videos, conference calls, etc. All of these will become available to you for FREE if you sign up for your own essential oils kit!

We love our Young Living oils at our house. It’s been fun to see the transformation of our family as we reduce our pharmaceutical usage and increase our oil usage. My small people will come to me and ask, “Do you have an oil for xyz?” Of course, I do!

Very interesting. I have a friend who is beginning to use essential oils for some of her chronic problems. I have been reading about them for awhile, but never used them before. My daughter, as a student in horticulture has worked in a lab before extracting oils, so she knows the process. I have one questions: what type of water do you put in the infuser?

Hi Beverly, thanks for your question. What was recommended to me is to use filtered, but not distilled, water in the rose diffuser that comes with the YL starter kit. Otherwise, it depends on the type of diffuser when it comes to other types. Some say distilled and some you need the minerals in the water so that it registers on the little silver metal plate that there’s water in there. Hope that helps! Just let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you 🙂

In the past year or so I have gotten more cautious about how we handle health in our house. I have not gotten any essential oils yet, though from all the research I have been doing I know they are in our future. My question would be what would be the #1 oil you would recommend having? They can be a little pricey and I think I will have to buy a little at a time so would like an opinion on where to start. Thanks in advance.

I have used Young Living EO to cure my daughter’s seasonal allergy and the treatment was really helpful. The blend I used ( i can not remember the name now) contained lavender and wild orange, and it took only a week to get rid of the allergy fully.
